What is Urban Air Mobility, or UAM?

Urban Air Mobility (UAM) refers to an air transportation system that moves passengers and cargo in integrated transport networks across cities.  Similarly, the term, regional air mobility (RAM), refers to the air transport of passengers and cargo on short trips between regional areas.

Why are Urban and Regional Air Mobility needed?

As populations in urban areas grow and become more dense, new sustainable technologies will allow us to reimagine mobility. New electric air taxis will enable us to travel around cities and between regions more sustainably, flexibly, quickly and easily.  Urban and regional air mobility will ensure aviation can continue to connect people, services and goods in a sustainable and seamless way.

Where will electric taxis take off and land?

A vertiport is an area where electric air taxis will take-off and land.

What are electric air taxis?

Electric air taxis are a new class of aircraft called electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOLs). Powered by electricity, these aircraft will offer cleaner, quieter and more affordable urban and regional flights.

How will the UK benefit from UAM?

The UK will have a sustainable (zero-emission) mode of transportation that enhances urban and regional connectivity. People and goods will be able to travel across cities and access regional areas more directly and quickly as a complement to existing surface-based transportation. As the UAM industry grows, it will create demand for new investment and infrastructure, generate jobs and unlock economic opportunities in both urban and regional areas.
