About

Urban Air Mobility

We believe that urban mobility
using electric air taxis can
benefit the people of the UK,
the economy, and the
environment.

The consensus is clear. Sustainability must be a priority for the UK’s transportation future. But what if we could get from A to B more sustainably and quickly? Look skyward. That future is almost here.

Electric air taxis, also called electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOLs), will soon be operational. These “green” aircraft will deliver on-demand urban flights at a more affordable price point. Trips across the city will be quick and easy. As demand for urban air mobility (UAM) grows, new investment will bring more jobs and economic opportunities.

Transforming this vision into reality will require more than just a new type of aircraft. It will require an integrated and scalable ecosystem that helps aviation authorities navigate infrastructure, regulations, technologies, airspace design, and aircraft types so that they can all scale together over time. Building this complex ecosystem will be a challenging task that needs to begin now.

Collaboration will be key to delivering a safe and scalable ecosystem that will advance sustainable aviation, drive economic growth, and increase community accessibility. To that end, our UAM consortium has come together to make this vision a reality.

Our Consortium

Led by Eve Air Mobility, we are a team of world-leading aviation organisations with expertise that spans the aviation industry. Together, we are working to support the growth of UAM in the UK. With members from the UK, Germany, US, and Brazil, we have the insight, expertise, and innovative spirit to build an integrated and scalable UAM ecosystem.

Our experience is broad and our vision is future-oriented. Our collective expertise includes:

Creating and testing airspace concepts
Designing eVTOL aircraft
Managing air traffic and airspace design
Planning airports and passenger facilities
Developing vertiports
Integrating air traffic management software systems

UK Civil
Aviation
Authority
Sandbox

In our first project, we are participating in the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s (CAA) Regulatory Sandbox. We are developing and testing a Concept of Operations (CONOPS) that defines the airspace design, procedures, and infrastructure for safely integrating new types of electric air taxi operations into the low-level airspace.

To test the feasibility of the CONOPS, we will develop a Use Case that focuses on transporting passengers from London City Airport to Heathrow Airport (with stops in between). Simulation and modelling will generate data that will inform the CAA on matters relating to:

  • Regulatory gaps and challenges,
  • Potential separation standards for electric air taxi operations,
  • Efficacy of dedicated flight corridors,
  • Design considerations for airspace solutions, and
  • Airspace capacity with growing electric air taxi operations.

We will be consulting with local authorities as this project unfolds. The results will provide the CAA with a tested framework for harmonising the low-level airspace and contribute to an integrated strategy for accommodating low-level airspace stakeholders. The CAA will then be able to use this CONOPS to help shape future regulations for integrating UAM operations in locations across the UK.
