Completion of First Major Milestone: Regulatory Baseline of UAM Operations

Completion of First Major Milestone: Regulatory Baseline of UAM Operations

June 07, 2021

We’re proud to announce the successful completion of our first major milestone! We have finished compiling a baseline of the current regulatory environment as it relates to the integration of UAM operations. The baseline describes the key regulatory challenges and gaps that will need to be addressed as we work to safely integrate and scale UAM operations over London.

As we move on to developing the CONOPS, we will generate recommendations that address challenges related to:

  • High-tempo UAM operations;
  • Low-level flights in congested airspace; and
  • Unique performance and capabilities of eVTOL aircraft.

The regulatory baseline was completed in close collaboration with the CAA and further validated through consultation with external stakeholders. We would like to thank the following organisations for their time, expertise and input: ADS Group, Atlas Helicopters, Connected Places Catapult, and London Heliport.

Commenting, Frederic Laugere, UK Civil Aviation Authority Innovation Service Lead, said:

“The UK Civil Aviation Authority and the consortium led by Eve Air Mobility have developed a common understanding of the safety risks associated with UAM operations over London.

“The baseline is an important milestone. For the Civil Aviation Authority, it provides insight on how to shape future regulations to enable eVTOL operations over urban environments. For the Consortium, it provides direction for the development of its concept of operations.”

We are now developing the CONOPS for the London Use Case with an emphasis on the regulatory challenges and gaps defined through the project’s first milestone. During this process, we will continue to work closely with the CAA and other local and industry stakeholders to receive feedback on the CONOPS as it evolves. Furthermore, we will begin planning our simulations to validate and test the CONOPS.
